About Athletics -
Able-bodied athletes:
The North American Indigenous Games will consist of both male and female individual and team relay events for the bantam, midget, juvenile, junior and senior age categories.

Special Olympic athletes:
The 2002 NAIG is offering one age classification for the Special Olympic Athletes in the sport of athletics. This classification is determined by the year of birth. This age classification is for Adult Category athletes 15 years of age and older in 2002 - born in 1987 or earlier.
Events are either heats and finals, or just finals dependant on the number of entries. This format will be followed for Special Olympic athletes as well.
