The design of the 2002 NAIG Logo reflects the many different cultures, the spiritual foundation, and pride of the Indigenous Peoples of Turtle Island (North America).
The Circle of Life
The red circle represents the circle of life. The fundamental belief that all parts of Mother Earth, both the animate and inanimate are inter-related and form a common bond, which is represented by the circle of life.
The Metis Sash
The color red is representative of the historical depicted colour of the Metis sash. The sash is made up of many interconnected threads, many patterns and many colours. The sash also reflects the lives of the Metis people whose history is woven from a blend of cultures, traditions and beliefs. Today, the Metis people proudly wear the sash.
The Year 2002
2002 is the year the North American Indigenous Games come to Winnipeg, Manitoba (Canada), July 25th to August 4th, 2002.
The Sun
The yellow circle as the head of the athlete, represents the sun. Aboriginal and Native American people have honoured the sun since time immemorial for its life sustaining force.
Victory
The blue V under the yellow circle symbolizes the athlete raising their arms in victory and celebration. Victory is attained through strength of character and abundant self-discipline, encompassing the spiritual, physical, emotional and mental aspects of human life.
Blue
To First Nations and Native American people the color blue represents the life giving force of water. It is the women of our nations who possess the ability to carry the most precious gift from the Creator, the gift of life.
Five Feathers
The five feathers; red, black, white, yellow and blue, that fall below the red circle represents the colours of the people of the world, and the blue feather symbolizes the flag of the Metis Nation.
