Opening Ceremony
On July 28, 2002, at 6:30 PM Canad Inns Stadium will host the 2002 North American Indigenous Opening Ceremony, presented by James Richardson & Sons, Limited, and Affiliated Companies. First Nation, Metis, Inuit and Native American Youth will rally together to represent their traditional territories, cultures and sports to spectators, Canada and the International Community.
Hundreds of volunteers are needed to create these disciplined and carefully choreographed events. These volunteers are an integral part of the Ceremony, to create a stage, backdrop, music, dance, and performances for the real stars - the Athletes.
For the public, this will be a once in a lifetime opportunity to participate in this diversity of Indigenous Peoples from across North America in the diversity of Indigenous Peoples from across North America.
It also gives athletes, the volunteers and members of the Aboriginal communities the chance to interact collectively in a unique cultural setting that will create lasting and memorable impressions.

Closing Ceremony
The Closing Ceremony will take place on Sunday August 4th, 20002 at Festival Park at The Forks. As the participants partake in time honored rites and customs to send off the visitors and new found friends, Winnipeg too will bid farewell to the 2002 North American Indigenous Games. Special recognition will be given to the thousands of Athletes, Coaches, Officials, Performers, and Volunteers that made our games a triumphant success.
Using a blend of traditional and contemporary processes and customs. The Closing Ceremonies will celebrate a balance of culture and sport of indigenous Peoples of North America and bid farewell to all athletes, participants and spectators of the 2002 North American Indigenous Games
This event will be open and free to the public.
