Tips for stainless steel sink cleaning

Stainless steel compared to other materials used for kitchen equipment has several advantages. It benefits from a certain resistance to high cooking temperatures and resistance to corrosion. Despite this, he is sensitive to soiling. Whether it’s fingerprints, food, or just traces of water. It is therefore essential that the sink is cleaned often enough.

– Household alcohol
– White vinegar
– Sparkling water
– Dishwashing liquid
– Soap
– Microfiber cloth or soft cloth

Before you start

The cleaning of the sink is a fairly simple job, but the process changes depending on the material used for its design.

1. Daily cleaning

One of the best methods to maintain the stainless steel sink is to clean it daily with dishwashing liquid. It is also possible to clean it with soapy water or hot water. Once cleaned, wipe it off immediately with a microfiber cloth. This method may show flaws if the traces are stubborn.

2. Thorough cleaning and shine of the sink

This process is suitable for stubborn marks. Pour a few drops of household alcohol on a soft cloth then gently rub the sink with it. It is also possible to use white vinegar diluted and heated in advance. Above all, avoid direct use of pure vinegar as this may damage the stainless steel.

In addition, to give shine to the stainless steel sink, there are specific products. In case you do not have these products, use sparkling water. To do this, spread it over the sink, then scrub with a soft cloth and rinse with warm water. Then wipe with a cloth to avoid leaving water marks.

3. Alternative methods

There are still other simpler tips. There is among others the cleaning with:

– A potato
Rub the sink with one of the potato peels and rinse a few minutes later using a soft cloth.

– Lemon
Dip a sponge in lemon juice then use it to scrub the sink or use lemon directly to rub.

Baking soda Spread baking soda on the sink and rub it with a damp sponge. Then rinse with plain water and then wipe with a soft cloth.

Cleaning the faucet

For the rest of the stainless steel furniture (worktop, credenza, hood and the kitchen faucet made of stainless steel), it is also possible to proceed in the same way as for the sink. In the absence of a special stainless steel product, it is possible to use the products used to wash the windows to make your furniture shine. Put on the furniture and wipe with a soft cloth then to get a net result. In addition, do not use this method on the sink or any surface coming into direct contact with the food to avoid the risk of intoxication or poisoning.

Good to know

Although stainless steel is resistant to corrosion, it can happen that it is subject to poor maintenance. Due to the use of an abrasive product for example (bromine and chlorine). Above all, avoid using bleach to clean the stainless steel sink because the bleach is very corrosive and a bad rinse can leave traces on the sink.

Hot to cut metal with different saws

sawsTo cut metal and more particularly the steel profiles, different tools can be used. I present here the main ones with their advantages and disadvantages and especially a comparison of the quality of the cuts.

Preamble: there are of course other tools to cut the metal but as usual, I speak only of what I have in my possession and so that I could test to give you a real opinion and not an “I heard that”.

The classic grinder

We start off with the tool that every handyman has at home? The small grinder, usually with 125 diameter discs. Found in wired between 50 and 100 $  for models generally under 1000W (more powerful grinders will be more expensive).

Having recently burned my recent grinder (asking him too much?), I have an old model here but it works just as well

its weight and size, which allows it great maneuverability (there are also very flat models for grinding in tight spaces)
a single tool for cutting metal and grinding welds
low cost, especially since it is often a tool that we have already

quality of unspecific cuts and tending to bluish the metal
not suitable for small jobs requiring high precision
difficult to make repeated cuts.
cutting quality:

As said above, the quality of cut is very average. (nb: there are finer discs that allow a relatively more precise/clean work)

The Chainsaw

We pass a notch above with the chainsaw. The concept is the same as the grinder but we work here in stationery with much larger discs.

stationary work
ability to maintain parts
angular guide
greater cutting capacity
the possibility of making repeated cuts by manufacturing a guide and a stop system.
cleaner cut than the manual grinder

its price: 2 to 3 times more expensive than a small grinder
not suitable for small jobs requiring high precision
cutting quality:

As can be seen in the picture, the quality of cut is much better than on the small manual grinder. Nevertheless, there are still areas of blued metal.

can be used in stationary work (by fixing the saw on a worktop)
very high cutting accuracy
ultra-clean cut with no effect on metal
Allows to easily make any angle
Suitable for small parts and work requiring precision

its price: 4 to 5 times more expensive than a small grinder
low cutting height (depending on model and in comparison with a metal chainsaw)
cutting quality:

The Table Saw

Cutting steel with the top rated table saws is the easiest method out of all these.

very smooth to cut

easy to operate

fairly safe if you know what you’re doing

most expensive of them all

can be hard to setup and dusty

Characteristics of table saws that you must consider

saw bladeIn general, the circular saw is installed under the table, so it is able to split the wood panels. It may even be able to cut metals, but it will depend on the types of metals you are going to use.

Blade: the size of the blade is variable because its diameter can be between 200 and 400mm accompanied by steel teeth. Depending on the type of material and the height of the material to be cut, you can choose the blade according to its use. According to standards, the blade must be surrounded by a protective cover which acts as a protector.

Table: There are two table characteristics, the cast iron table, and the aluminum table. The size of the saw is according to the model because the dimensions for small models are between 60 x 30 cm and large 80 x 70 cm. In any case, from the technical point of view, the work surface is always proportional to its accessories.

Power: so that you can work properly, it is obvious that you will need power. The power of table saws ranges from about 1,000 to 4,000 watts. In addition, the device can be in mono or three-phase mode. The machine can be adapted to your needs. A good table saw for woodworking will be powerful enough to cut through most types of wood.

Weight: like the other characteristics, the weight can be as variable, but must also be proportional to the power, as well as to the different structural materials of your table.

The miter saw: it is useful to reverse the position of the saw to use it on the top of the particular. Its role is therefore quite independent. In addition, it is also useful for miter cuts which are in particular cuts between 0 and 90 degrees relative to the piece of wood. Starting from this fact, the table must, therefore, be equipped with a rotating and graduated plate.

Choosing a garbage disposal: Expert Tips

garbageWhat is the price of a garbage disposer? What are the advantages of a garbage disposer? How do I install a garbage disposer at home? We present a detailed fact sheet for all you know about the price of a garbage disposer and its installation.

Do you want to get rid of your garbage easily, making a gesture for the planet? Opt for the purchase of a garbage disposer.

Types of garbage disposals

There are different types. For conventional food waste within the kitchen, but also for green waste littering the garden. We will see together these different ways of waste treatment and their prices.

Under-sink garbage disposal

Let’s start with the best-known garbage crusher, kitchen crusher or food waste crusher. It is placed under the sink of the kitchen and allows to crush the organic waste by evacuating it by a system of purification. Its use is simple, just put the organic waste in the sink, to run the water which will lead to the waste in the crusher. Then activate a switch, the grinder motor switches on and the waste are reduced to particulate matter and discharged into the wastewater drain. Obviously, only organic waste is crushed able. Therefore, you must ensure that it is used correctly to prevent clogging or damage.

Opting for a sink crusher is adopting for better hygiene for the whole family. Reducing the amount of organic waste can reduce the risk of infestation, insects or the presence of rodents. A garbage disposer helps to eliminate foul odors in the kitchen because waste treatment becomes easy and your garbage cans are also less congested.

The under-sink shredder is one of the best ways to get rid of organic waste while respecting the planet. Peels and leftovers of food will be broken down into fine particles. They are then sent into the pipes and destroyed by the natural fermentation of a skeptic pit or recycled to a sewage treatment plant. A junk crusher is therefore practical but also environmentally friendly. So which garbage disposal is best? We think that as long as you choose an under the sink type you will be ok.

The only negative point, its use must be perfectly controlled. You have to think about introducing only organic waste and therefore no plastics, metal or chemical residue to avoid damaging your system.
